My great aunt Gene was my mother's, mother's sister. She was the oldest of five children born to Glenn Pressey Clinger and Elmina Marsh Clinger. The family lived in the Erie, Pennsylvania area. Gene Clinger had been a twin, but one baby died in the womb. Aunt Gene wrote a series of 'chapters' about her and her family growing up in the 1920's and 30's organized by the addresses where they lived. For posterity, I am providing them here. They are edited for flow and clarity.

My sister came along when mother, dad and I lived in a "flat" at 31st and Chestnut. Carolyn Mae (Arena's maternal grandmother) was born on February 16, 1925 at 31st and Chestnut. Where they got the name Carolyn neither she nor I can tell. The Mae came from my dad's side of the family for Ethel Mae and Minnie Mae. Carolyn tells me that mother and dad also thought of Emily, nevertheless, she ended up with Carolyn Mae.
There were two flats and we lived on the first floor. We didn't have to lock our doors back then.
My grandfather and grandmother Marsh wanted my mother to leave dad and come back with the two of us girls. I don't know what my father had done but there was something about a man named Widmack and he had something to do with a company.
My great-grandmother, on my father's side, Pressey, died July 1st, 1924. She was Emma Hotchkiss Pressey and was born in Canada as was my great-grandfather. David Pressey who came from Port Burwell across the lake from Erie. They lived at 1044 West 1st Street, Oil City, PA in a duplex, with my Aunt Ethel and Uncle Andy living in the other half. Ethel was my father's sister and had married Andrew Lawrence Shaffer.

This address of 306 W. 31st is a bit tricky. I cannot tell if the house remains standing, street numbers have changed or what. My Aunt Gene has a very grainy black and white picture.
